Aged just 20 years old Damien Coquelet bottled his first vintage in 2007. Not entirely surprising when you then hear he is the step-son of Beaujolais legend Georges Descombes. With his first plot of Côte du Py being gifted to him by the Mayor of Morgon, Damien is truly respected in the region and one of the next-generation of vignerons redefining the region.
Taking advice from and being mentored by Descombes, Damien has followed the same path - organic viticulture, hand harvesting, native yeasts and zero intervention in the cellar with little or no sulphur added at bottling. Damien farms 2 hectares of Beaujolais Villages around the Côte de Brouilly and to supplement these holdings buys some of his grapes from his friend and natural winemaker Nicolas Chemarin, from some beautiful old-vine parcels up in the hills in Marchampt. He also has vineyards on the Côte du Py and in Chiroubles.
