Petit Août (little August) takes its name from proprietor Yann Agostini’s Italian heritage (Agostini is little August in Italian).  Yann’s grandfather left his home near Lake Maggiore in Northern Italy during the second world war and found work in this beautiful valley just south of Gap.

Vines are amongst the highest in France at 600-700m, and with a micro-climate not as hot as Provence and drier than Savoie.  Soils are composed of well draining clay and limestone

80% of Yann’s vines are rented and currently comprise of 4.7ha broken down into parcels of Mollard (3.5ha), Roussanne (1.2ha), Clairette (.8ha), Muscat (.4ha), Cabernet Sauvignon and (.3ha) and Marsanne (.2ha).  Ages of the vines vary between 5 and 55 years old.

Converted to organics in 2014 with no use of artificial fertilisers and herbicides and only copper and sulphur to treat the vines.  Hand harvested, direct press with 48 hours skin contact.  90% goes into 4th use Burgundy barrels and 10% in tank sur lie.  Blocked malolactic to retain acidity and freshness.
