Pierre-Henri Rougeot has been quietly producing impeccable minimal intervention, low-sulphur wines since he returned to the family Domaine in 2010.
Today, the Rougeot vineyards are farmed organically, and Pierre-Henri’s no sulphur vinification effortlessly balances a natural wine approach with traditional Burgundian technique to create wines with energy and balance. Each individual terroir is bottled separately though often there is two bottlings of each, one with no sulphur and the other with a small addition.
Whites are new wave Meursault, so tension over fatness, but still with a richness of fruit that typifies the village.
Les Toisières is located at the crossroads between Meursault and Monthelie. Locally it is referred to as the ‘cousin’ of Meursault offering complexity and freshness at great value. The vineyard used to be planted with Pinot Noir but Pierre-Henri’s father replanted it with Chardonnay in the early 1990s.
The wine is vinified like a Meursault, with a long maturation in barrels for 18 months. However, no new oak is used so that the wine can express its terroir as much as possible. Bottled without sulphur additions.
2023 is the first vintage at the winery to officially be demeter certified.
