Beaujolais Greatest Hits Case

We have managed to keep a few wines back in the 6 years we've been importing from Beaujolais, this a lovely mix of wines that are special to us and includes an extremely rare bottling from Domaine Chapel.  Quantities are extremely limited.

Journets was the first bottling of the change in style at Domaine Saint-Cyr, a Domaine that has progressed since we have worked together and has seen continued improvement. Now very much one of the top domaines across the region. Long cool carbonic before pressing off with vertical press and aging in a mix of concrete and old barrels.

We like to have a guest wine in these cases. This is a wine we sadly no longer import. A lesson learnt that we didn't get to see them during Covid and how things are sometimes lost in translation. But part of our journey nonetheless, they are now imported by the mighty Les Caves De Pyrene.
Chassignol is without doubt one of the truly brilliant single site expressions in Beaujolais, it is a vineyard behind their cellar on the mid-point of the Chenas hill. Fermentation is cool carbonic and this bottling always has an aroma of roses reminiscent of some very fine vineyards further North in the Côte de Nuits.

From vines planted by Yann's grandfather 60 years ago and converted to organic farming by his father nearly 30 years ago. This parcel makes the densest fruit and goes through a long maceration of a month before pressing into barrel for extended aging. As always great drinkability but also a wine for the cellar.

A style of Fleurie that is certainly of the moment. Influenced by the vibrant wines of Dutraive Spaciale is a slow long carbonic maceration in a spherical 'Sputnik' tank. The texture is out of this world, a vibrant style that will disappear in minutes.

The Chapel's love to have a micro-cuvee. This one comes from the vines on the north-facing side of the amphitheatre in Charbonnières. This wine is extremely limited and is only available as part of this case. If you like rotundone (that pepperiness you find in Pineau D'Aunis and Syrah) then you will love this special bottling.

The fruit for this terroir-led wine comes from rocky vineyards with granite stones and poor soil. Nicolas blends 5 parcels of 35-50-year-old vines in Marchampt, farming them organically and only ploughing once every three years. The vines are some of the highest in the region.
The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo semi-carbonic maceration with indigenous yeasts. The wine is pumped over once after seven days and pressed into fibreglass tank after 15 days. Aged in fibreglass tank and bottled, unfined and unfiltered.
