Brothers Francesc and Joan Ferré’s family have been growing grapes on their organic farm for over 200 years. Based in Corbera d’Ebre, way up in the hills of Catalonia west of Barcelona, they’ve been making their own wine since 2009 and have the families’ commitment to sustainable and organic viticulture deep in their DNA. Celler Frisach have gained a reputation for making ripe but vivid wines, a classic reflection of the hot days and cool nights, so typical of their Mediterranean climate.
80 year old Vernatxa vines.
Joan and Francesc want to recover a way of making ancestral wines in Terra Alta, brisat wines. They collect the grapes with boxes, once the grapes have been selected manually and very carefully, they are placed in a tank to carry out the joint fermentation of the must with the skins for a week, in order to extract the purest essence of the variety.
After this time, the free run juice goes to concrete tank and the press goes to old 500 L barrels to age for 9 months, to finish aging the wine and delicately polishing this variety that has endured over time. A wine that has not been filtered, clarified or stabilized, a pure Grenache.
