As our name suggests, we look beyond the perceived 'top' areas to seek out new wines, and Marchampt is quite the place. Having tasted some excellent wines from some of the few growers that don?t send their grapes to the co-operative in Quinci we are delighted to start working with Nicolas Chemarin.

The vineyards are around 500m above sea level, the soil is very granitic, and the vineyards are steep. Nicolas grew up here, and it is a labour of love to work this site for him. He also has a foot in the future and the area's evolution. He has planted some Mondeuse, with the first harvest coming this year.

Nicolas  farms his 8 hectares organically (although uncertified) and only ploughs once every three years. The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo semi-carbonic maceration with indigenous yeasts. The wine is pumped over once after seven days and pressed into fibreglass tank after 15 days. Aged in fibreglass tank and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
