Ca’ Lustra's vineyards grow among gorgeous slopes of the Colli Euganei (Euganean Hills). This is a well-known area for its volcanic soils made up of clear siliceous rocks, mixed with limestone of varying age and origin. Each vineyard comprises different soils and microclimates.
Their journey started in the 1960’s, when Angelo Zanovello bought the house in Faedo as a countryside retreat. In 1977 Franco, fascinated by winemaking, turned an old room in the stables into a winery. His knowledge and contagious commitment grew fast (along with the business. Now the family farm of 42 hectares (25 of which are vineyards) is run by Franco with his children Marco and Linda. The Zavonello Selection showcases their deep knowledge of the region and their dedication to sustainable agriculture (they have been farming organically since 2007). Their wines express the specific character of the terroir, and are made with spontaneous fermentation, no clarification and minimal sulfites.
Marzemino is a red grape variety found across northern Italy.
It was planted in 2001 on a little over one hectare, hosting 7000 guyot trained vines. The soil is limestone, warm, shallow and rich in structure.
The wine is fermented in tanks, then matured in large old barrels for a couple of years. It is neither clarified nor filtered.
