Like many families in Piedmont, the Altare's have been growing Dolcetto grapes in the Dogliani region for five generations. Young Nicholas loved this beautiful terroir and cried when the grapes were sold. In 2017 Nicholas made his first Dolcetto DOCG using the nearby winery of his friend and mentor, Principiano Ferdinando. He produced only 1500 bottles and they sold within days. He then planted Barbera and Nebbiolo vines and made the decision to practice organically and sustainably. In 2018 he had built his own winery and had produced 8500 bottles of Dolcetto plus Barbera and Nebbiolo.
We are so proud to introduce the work of such a passionate young winemaker into our portfolio.
From old vines in San Luigi, the heart of Dogliani vineland. Fermented with skin contact for 3 weeks and aged in concrete tank for 10 months.
